Golden milk is a Ayurvedic drink very popular in the daily routine of any person in India. In recent years, Western society has discovered the multiple health benefits of this ancient beverage and its use has increased greatly. Let me explain what is golden milk, its benefits and its traditional recipe.
Introduction - History
This beverage has its origins in the ancestral medicine of India. Ayurveda considers food our best medicine and the best friend to be healthy. For thousands of years the "golden milk" has been a drink present in every home in India and its tradition has been passed down from generation to generation as a pleasure for the taste and a medicine for our being.
This drink is based on cow's milk, ghee, honey, turmeric, and other spices, is very beneficial for health. Although it is a good food for the 3 doshas, we have to take into account what is our Prakriti or combination of doshas by nature and imbalances at the present time to adapt its intake to our needs.
If you have excess PITTA: You can take it every day at any time but it is highly recommended that you drink a cup at night. If you have a very high Pitta level, reduce the amount of pepper and ginger in the evening intake.
If you have excess VATA: You can take it every day at any time. It is highly recommended that you drink a cup at night as it will help calm the nervous system and promote sleep.
If you have excess KAPHA: You can take it but always before 6pm and better if you do not add ghee. If you have a high level of excess Kapha, reduce the intake of dairy and ghee to regulate your Kapha levels.
