Agra is a must stop for most travelers visiting India and is a must-see for its main (if not only) reason is to visit the Taj Mahal. One of the most visited monuments in India and recognized worldwide as one of the 7 wonders of the modern world.

Best places to stay in Agra

I definitely recommend the Fatehabad Street and the Taj East Gate Road. The location is perfect and you have hotels for all tastes and budgets as well as stores and cafes. They are also good areas to move to see the other places of interest because in Agra is not only the Taj Mahal although it is the main protagonist.

Neighborhoods or areas of Agra (where to stay)

Fatehabad Street

This street is in the city center and has many hotels, stores and restaurants.. You have budget hotels as well as mid-priced and budget hotels and luxury accommodations. In this area you can find picturesque streets characterized by their life and bustle.

If you prefer economic housing I recommend the Hotel Sahibs Royal Ville (it is 500m away from the Taj Mahal) and if you want to sleep in a luxury hotel as a Mughal Emperor, the ITC Mughal is the best option.

Taj East Gate Road

This The area is quiet and offers luxury hotels with large gardens and spectacular views of the Taj Mahal. There are also inexpensive hotels and many cafes, restaurants and stores.

If you are looking for cheap but charming accommodation I recommend Coral Court homestay, a guesthouse with an excellent service and very well cared details.

If you want a intermediate housing the Hotel Taj Resorts is perfect and if you want to treat yourself a luxury experience without a doubt the hotel Oberoi Amarvillas.

Taj Ganj

This is the Muslim quarter of Agra and has become the favorite enclave of backpackers visiting the city. A very picturesque area where you can experience first hand the daily life of the locals in the city. This neighborhood with its narrow streets is full of very economical hostels and hotels as well as restaurants and cafes with rooftops overlooking the Taj Mahal (although rather obstructed by buildings, billboards etc.).

It is an area with a lot of life both day and night and many travelers choose this area to adjust their lodging budget or to live a more authentic experience.

Before making a reservation I recommend that you read the travelers' reviews carefully at Tripadvisor , Booking.com as there are many hotels and hostels in which you will probably not want to stay...

Agra Old City

This area is one of the most authentic in the city due to its historical importance. It is the best area if you like to live the most authentic experiences but it is not your area if you want a quiet neighborhood to relax. Here you will find the Agra Fort train station as well as places of interest such as the Jama Masjid Mosque, Agra Red Fort,or the Kinari Bazaar (not to be missed).

In the Old City of Agra I recommend you to The Grand Imperial Heritage Hotel,a majestic lodging.

I hope my article will help you decide where to stay in Agra and I also hope you enjoy your visit to the city of the Taj Mahal very much.
